About

Welcome. You're probably in over your head. Excellent.

We help ordinary people build extraordinary lives on their little piece of earth.

Nobody starts out knowing what they're doing. You buy a packet of seeds, then a raised bed, then a book about soil, and one day you're pricing livestock fencing at midnight. That's not a problem. That's the hobby working as intended.

What we make

Farm Pulse, a weekly letter full of backyard disasters, odd inventions and genuinely useful know-how, plus guides for gardeners, chicken keepers and acreage owners in the US and Canada, side by side.

How we make it

We joke about the chaos, never about the advice. We do the boring checking so you don't have to: everything is checked against extension services and government sources behind the scenes, and the sources live at the bottom of each piece, like the good snacks at the back of the pantry. If we can't verify it, we won't pretend. Your local Extension office or provincial ag ministry always gets the final word.

Why bother

Because underneath the jokes, this is about the good stuff: the first ripe tomato, the first warm egg, a kid finding out carrots come from dirt. Messy, imperfect, worth it.

Farm Pulse is coming soon

Your weekly dose of dirt, questionable decisions and backyard brilliance. It isn't open yet, partly because we're still arguing about how many chickens counts as "a few." There's no sign-up form here because we don't do fake ones. Check back soon.

Can't wait? Say hi at hello@sortafarmer.com.
